TranzAction is dedicated to helping and bringing together all transgender folk in the United Kingdom.
Our main objective is to campaign and pressure the Government and the NHS to provide adequate support, resources and sufficient funding in order to create responsive and better staffed facilities and creating more Gender Identity Clinics (GIC) throughout the U.K. With the huge rise in GP referrals and enormous waiting lists at all current NHS GIC facilities, it is clear the system needs fixing and requires radical change in line with the NHS promise to all transgender people in the UK.

Letter to General Practitioner
Below is a letter I recently sent a General Practitioner (GP – doctor) regarding a transgender patient who I shall call Patient X. It illustrates how here in the UK transgender the medical profession is neglecting patients. It’s the GP’s responsibility to not only refer a transgender patient to an area GIC (Gender Identity Clinic) for professional consultation, but because of waiting times that can exceed more than two years plus, the GP is both responsible and empowered to assist their transgender patient whilst they are waiting to see the GIC.
If any transgender patients who have already been referred to a GIC but aren’t getting cooperation or support from their GP, please use the contents of my letter and customise it accordingly.

Transgender Health
I highly recommend the publication for both transgender patients & GP’s. ‘Transgender Health’, Ben Vincent, PhD. A Practitioners Guide to Binary & Non-Binary Trans Patient Care.

Another very useful resource for those who are being obstructed by their GP. Applies to all of the UK. But do refer to local NHS Guidelines.
